Using Media Analytics to Build Your Resume

As a potential applicant to any job or internship, a resume is a vital form to have. A resume is one document that encompasses the backgrounds, strengths, education, and achievements of a person. The quality of a resume is so important that it can make or break an applicant’s chances of getting a particular job. Many people find it hard to congratulate themselves on their strengths in fear that it makes them seem too conceited. However, a useful tip for those people is to replace the “strengths” section with “skills.” Instead of putting personal information on a resume such as characteristics, emphasizing acquired skills makes an applicant look smart, which is a strength in and of itself. A great way for any applicant to increase their number of relevant skills mastered for any job is through Media Analytics. 

Anyone can become an analyst to some degree. Many employers aren’t looking for a certified analyst, but having basic knowledge with analytics is a certain way to upgrade any resume. Technology such as Tableau, data mining, and project management are among many other skills that can be fairly simple to learn while simultaneously making an applicant more well rounded. These skills will be discussed in further detail.

Tableau: Tableau is a visual analytics platform that helps analysts solve problems within their data. There have been many great reviews about the platform from big companies such as Allstate and Chipotle. Companies use the site to organize big portions of data, and then use that visualization of the data to fix various issues within the company.

Data Mining: Data mining is useful for gathering large amounts of raw data and reconstructing it to make it easier to understand. This is a version of statistical analysis that is very useful in the media analytics world. It is done by businesses collecting large amounts of data and downloading it. Then, they reorganize and process this data into an easier format to understand, such as a bar graph or pie chart. 

Project Management: Possibly the most obvious of the examples mentioned above, project management is the successful completion of a project's development into a finished product. This is done by taking into account the project budget, time restraints, and quality rules they will have to abide by. Examples of careers a project manager can dive into include healthcare, law, financial services, and engineering. 

With these skills mastered, any applicant’s resume can be remastered to help them get any job they may pursue.
